Welcome to the Faculty Handbook for Bates Technical College. We created this handbook as a resource for all adjunct, tenure track, and tenured instructors at the college. If you teach at Bates, these are the things you need to know.

While it is possible to read the entire handbook from start to finish, you may prefer to browse by topic. You can access the list of topics by scrolling down this page and clicking on the images or navigate using the links to the left.

This is a work in progress. If you have have changes or additions you wish to recommend, please contact the person listed at the top of each page.

Most importantly, none of the material here should be viewed as a substitute for the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which can be found on the employee resources page. Specifically:

1.2.1

The Employer recognizes that the Union is the exclusive representative of all employees in the bargaining unit described in Section 1.2.2.

2.2.1

This Agreement constitutes the entire negotiated Agreement between the College and the Union and supersedes any previous agreements and understandings between the parties. In addition, this Agreement supersedes any rules, regulations, policies, resolutions or practices of the College which shall be contrary to or inconsistent with its terms.

The Classroom and Teaching: This information is written for new and adjunct Bates faculty but even long time faculty members may find helpful hints. This page covers your rights and responsibilities as an instructor, basic survival information like keys and copying, and resources to assist you.

Curriculum and Assessment: This page covers the assessment and curriculum processes here at Bates. This includes your responsibilities, such as accurate SLO's and tracking student process. Most importantly, it gives you standards and guidelines to follow as well as who to contact in case of questions.

Faculty Support: This page contains key resources and information to assist you: How to purchase items, how to take leave, how to obtain coverage for your classroom, how to get email, etc.

Student Services: This page contains a partial list of the resources available to students as they attend Bates, such as Disability Services or the Veteran's Center.

Forms for Faculty: This page links to the locations of many important forms, such as budget and financial forms, work request forms, academic instruction forms, and incident forms.

FAQ's: Where you can find answers to some of the most common questions instructors ask.
